Precision ag summit set for Jan. 18

BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA

   The LSU AgCenter and Fletcher Technical Community College are partnering to present a daylong precision agriculture summit in early 2023.

   The event, set for Jan. 18 at the State Evacuation Shelter near Alexandria, will focus on practical uses of technology to improve efficiency on farms. It will feature AgCenter and Fletcher experts along with farmers and other industry professionals.

   “The LSU AgCenter is excited to partner with Fletcher Technical Community College for this event this year,” said Tara Smith, director of the AgCenter Central Region. “The vendor and exhibitor expo will highlight some of the newest equipment and technologies, and attendees will have an opportunity to hear from all sectors of the industry throughout the program.”

   Registration will begin at 7:45 a.m., and the program will conclude by 4:45 p.m. Lunch will be provided.

   Brenda Ortiz, a precision agriculture specialist with Auburn University, will deliver a keynote address on using digital data to increase profitability and strengthen environmental sustainability.

   Other presentations on the program include:

— Economics by AgCenter economist Michael Deliberto.

— Soil sampling techniques and analysis by AgCenter agent R.L. Frazier and AgCenter agronomist Andre Reis.

— Producer’s perspective by Noble Guedon. ∆
