The LSU AgCenter will hold a prescribed burn workshop on Monday, Nov. 6, and Tuesday, Nov. 7, in Amite.

The workshop will take place at the Tangipahoa Parish extension office located at 305 East Oak St.

AgCenter forestry agent Whitney Wallace said this condensed two-day workshop aims to provide participants with essential information on conducting prescribed burns safely and legally in timberlands.

This workshop will be led by expert instructors from the LSU AgCenter, she said.

“Due to the current statewide burn ban implemented by Louisiana authorities, which prohibits the use of prescribed fire within the state, we must unfortunately postpone the burn demonstration originally planned for this workshop,” she said.

“However, we are pleased to inform participants that an optional burn demonstration will be included in a future workshop, which they may attend free of charge,” Wallace said. “This will provide attendees with the opportunity to learn firsthand about prescribed burning techniques once it is safe and legal to do so.”

The registration fee for this workshop is $110 per person, which covers lunches, refreshments, handouts and supplies. The workshop is limited to the first 20 applicants.
