Eastern Missouri Livestock Auction

Compared to the last special two weeks ago, feeder steers weighing 500-800 lbs and heifers weighing 400-750 lbs all sold 10.00-20.00 higher, with two pot loads of heifers off the same consignment from two weeks ago weighing 1135 lbs trading 6.00 higher. Demand was very good on a heavy supply of feeders. Over all quality on the feeders was very good and ran very deep as buyers were very active to purchase feeders. Several stick out sales included 98 head of 1135 lb heifers at 215.00, 30 hd of replacement quality heifers weighing 854 lbs at 259.00, 27 steers weighing 794 lbs at 283.50 and 23 hd of 700 lb steers at 325.00. Slaughter steers and heifers sold firm to 4.00 higher with a large offering of slaughter cows trading fully steady to firm. It was an exciting day at EMC with a large crowd on hand, as EMC held their 2nd Border Wars Livestock Auctioneer Contest. Contestants had to auction at a livestock market in Missouri or a state that borders Missouri with 19 contestants entered for the competition. Preliminaries started at 9:00 with contestants competing for the top 10 positions that would compete for the Championship after lunch. Jay Romine with Blue Grass Marketing Group, Lexington, KY was awarded Champion with Quest Flesner with F & T Livestock, Palmyra, MO reserve champion and Tyler Bell with Oklahoma National Stockyards, OK runner-up. Jay Romine was chosen also as the People's Choice Award voted on by the people to raise money for First Candle an organization committed to the elimination of SIDS as a very generous amount was raised for this good cause. Supply included: 89% Feeder Cattle (42% Steers, 52% Heifers, 6% Bulls); 11% Slaughter Cattle (10% Steers, 5% Heifers, 75% Cows, 9% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 61%.

Compared to last week: Feeder steers 5.00-10.00 higher. Feeder heifers 3.00-8.00 higher. Stocker steers and steer calves 5.00-15.00 higher. Stocker heifers and heifer calves mostly steady in a light test of calves. Demand is very good for all classes. Increased action from northern accounts. Timely rains and warmer weather is improving an already good demand for grass cattle. Supply included some heifers that were previously held for replacements. Quality mostly average to attractive. Rains this past week reduced receipts some on Monday. Supply included: 100% Feeder Cattle (58% Steers, 41% Heifers, 1% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 73%.

Slaughter steers and heifers traded 1.00-2.00 higher on high choice and 2.00 higher on low choice and selects. Holstein steers traded 4.00 higher on high choice and 4.00 higher on low choice and selects. Feeder steers & heifers were very strong on the better quality on medium-large 1-2 (Market quotes are on mostly unvaccinated cattle)and higher on lower quality offering medium-short 2-3. Slaughter cows traded 2.00-4.00 higher on better overnight cows with good lean cows day trading 2.00 to 4.00 higher and 4.00 higher on slower cows. Slaughter bulls traded 3.00-10.00 higher.
