Eastern Missouri Livestock Auction

Friday's auction was Special Bred Cow and Pairs sale with a nice consignment of near 70 head of top quality young bred cows 3-5 yrs of age Western Origin mostly in the 2nd stage few in the 3rd stage sold with good demand from 3400.00-3700.00, also in the offering was a nice quality offering of 1st calf heifer pairs with 150-175 lb calves selling from 4250.00-4600.00 per pair. Feeder cattle were lightly tested selling in small packages and singles but the better quality calves sold with good demand and within last week's price ranges. Slaughter cows on a nice offering sold 3.00-5.00 higher. Supply included: 38% Feeder Cattle (22% Steers, 49% Heifers, 29% Bulls); 30% Slaughter Cattle (9% Heifers, 83% Cows, 8% Bulls); 32% Replacement Cattle (63% Bred Cows, 11% Bred Heifers, 4% Cow-Calf Pairs, 23% Heifer Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 23%.

Compared to last week's lighter receipts: Feeder steers over 800lbs 4.00-10.00 higher under 800lbs 20.00-25.00 higher. Feeder heifers 10.00- 20.00 higher. Steer calves 4.00-10.00 higher. Heifer calves 20.00-30.00 higher. Quality was much improved from last week. Demand good. Cattle futures have recovered nicely late last week and today. Rain is forecasted for this weekend. Supply included: 100% Feeder Cattle (52% Steers, 46% Heifers, 3% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 62%.

Slaughter steers and heifers traded 1.00 lower on high choice and 2.00 lower on low choice and selects. Holstein steers traded 1.00 lower on high choice and 3.00 lower on low choice and selects. Feeder steers & heifers were very strong on the better quality on medium-large 1-2 (Market quotes are on mostly unvaccinated cattle)and higher on lower quality offering medium-short 2-3. Slaughter cows traded 10.00-15.00 higher on better overnight cows with good lean cows trading 15.00-20.00 higher and 15.00 higher on slower cows. Slaughter bulls traded 2.00-5.00 higher.
