Jim Schlimme Tractor Enthusiast Passes Fervor On To Grandson, Logan
Most of us can remember the pride of a specific area of our childhood and for Jim Schlimme, a John Deere tractor technician for 33 years at B&G Equipment Company in Perryville, Missouri, that pride hasn’t dimmed.
Schlimme grew up on a farm near White Water, Missouri, where his passion for John Deere tractors began at an early age. He cannot forget that day in 1962 when his dad – the late Charlie Schlimme – went to a John Deere dealership in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and bought a B John Deere. “It was love at first sight” Schlimme exclaims.
He recalls many a day when he and brother Roy Lee helped farm the 200 acres of the family farm, plus acreage in the English Bottoms.
"I spent many hours on that old B John Deere tractor and loved every minute of it", he recalls.
When his father died in 1972 the old tractor became his own. Five years ago, he fully restored it and now that old tractor has a new admirer, Schlimme’s grandson Logan. When he comes to visit his first words are quite emphatic “Come on papa, let’s go ride the old B John Deere” Logan begs. ∆
