Friday's auction was a Special Bred Cow and pairs sale with several small consignments and groups of bred cows mostly 4 yrs to short and solid mouth in the 2nd and 3rd stage with several pairs mostly 4 yrs to short solid mouth selling with moderate to good demand. Feeder cattle were not well tested on light offering selling in small packages and singles selling within last week's price ranges on similar quality and weights. Slaughter steers and heifers sold steady to 1.00 higher with slaughter cows trading steady to firm. Supply included: 51% Feeder Cattle (46% Steers, 41% Heifers, 13% Bulls); 37% Slaughter Cattle (10% Steers, 11% Heifers, 69% Cows, 11% Bulls); 12% Replacement Cattle (50% Bred Cows, 50% Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 34%.

Compared to last week: Feeder steers 4.00-6.00 higher. Feeder heifers 2.00-6.00 higher. Demand very good for feeder cattle. Few weaned steer and heifer calves sold mostly steady. Demand moderate to good for calves. Cattle futures made large gains Monday as the stock market rose sharply and the southern border once again closed to cattle imports. May wheat run is on, but several new crop calves were included in supply. Wheat will see some significant maturing this week as temperatures will rise well into the 90's. Quality ran the full gamut of plain to attractive. Supply included: 100% Feeder Cattle (57% Steers, 39% Heifers, 4% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 79%.

Feeder steers & heifers were very strong on the better quality on medium-large 1-2 (Market quotes are on mostly unvaccinated cattle)and higher on lower quality offering medium-short 2-3. Slaughter cows traded 4.00-7.00 higher on better overnight cows & good lean cows. Day cows traded 4.00 higher and 2.00 higher on slower cows. Slaughter bulls traded steady.
