CROWLEY, LOUISIANA

The LSU AgCenter H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station will hold its 116th annual field day June 24.

The event will give visitors a chance to hear from AgCenter experts about their work to improve rice production and see station research plots firsthand. Field tours, which will be offered from 7 to 8:30 a.m., will cover variety breeding, pest management and agronomic issues.

Additional research endeavors will be highlighted throughout the morning at a scientific poster session, and industry groups will be on hand at a trade show.

An indoor program will begin at 10:30 a.m. It will include presentations from leaders of the AgCenter, Louisiana Rice Research Board, Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation and USA Rice Federation.

Lunch will be served at the conclusion of the event.

The station is located at 1373 Caffey Road near Crowley. With about 1,000 acres dedicated to research, the facility plays a crucial role in supporting the rice industry. According to the most recent AgCenter statistics, there are more than 461,000 acres of rice in Louisiana, contributing nearly $770 million to the state’s economy.
