Compared to the last special two weeks ago, a light test of steer calves weighing 500-550 lbs sold unevenly steady with a light test of 550-700 lb steers trading 10.00-15.00 lower on comparable sales, over 700 lbs on a limited test sold with a lower undertone. Feeder heifers all sold with a lower undertone on a very limited test of similar weights. Feeders sold mostly in small and odd packages with overall quality not as attractive as last special. There were a lot of variations in feeders on quality, condition, weaned or days unweaned and shots. CME Cattle futures closed the week mostly limit down after a very volatile week of sharply lower cattle futures. Slaughter cows sold fully steady to firm. Supply included: 84% Feeder Cattle (56% Steers, 37% Heifers, 7% Bulls); 16% Slaughter Cattle (31% Steers, 2% Heifers, 64% Cows, 3% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 57%.

Compared to last week: Feeder steers 5.00-15.00 lower. Feeder heifers 3.00-8.00 lower. Steer calves 7.00-15.00 higher. Heifer calves 5.00- 15.00 lower. Trade not near as active as last week with demand moderate for feeder cattle after a sharp decline in cattle futures last Friday. Live cattle closed higher but Feeder cattle futures had a ho-hum trade day on Monday with first 2 months lower and back months higher. Demand continues good for steer calves but moderate for heifer calves. Days weaned and rounds of shots very important with weather beginning to change and starting to act more like fall. Some calves selling at the upper end of the un-weaned quote had a round or multiple rounds of shots. Quality not as attractive as last week and mostly average. Supply included: 100% Feeder Cattle (61% Steers, 36% Heifers, 3% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 58%.
