Compared to the last special three weeks ago, steer and heifer calves under 650 lbs sold mostly 20.00-40.00 higher, spots 50.00 higher on the steer calves with 650-850 lb yearling steers trading firm to 12.00 higher and heifers over 650 sold with a higher undertone on limited comparisons. Demand was very good on a moderate to heavy offering as buyers are very active and aggressive to purchase cattle. Slaughter steers and heifers sold with a higher undertone with slaughter cows trading steady to firm. Supply included: 90% Feeder Cattle (57% Steers, 40% Heifers, 2% Bulls); 10% Slaughter Cattle (28% Steers, 69% Cows, 3% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 61%.

Compared to the last sale in December: Feeder steers 3.00-10.00 higher. Feeder heifers 10.00-20.00 higher. Demand moderate to good for feeder cattle. Some 6 and 7 weight cattle in light flesh and better quality are headed back to winter pasture. These cattle sold sharply higher. Cattle futures closed higher Monday following a sharply higher close on Friday. Slaughter cattle made gains last week as well. Steer calves sold 15.00-25.00 higher. Heifer calves under 500 lbs mostly steady; over 500 lbs 20.00 higher. Demand very good for calves despite very dry conditions. Rain is in the forecast for later in the week. Much of the state has returned to some stage of a drought and some wheat is starting to yellow due to the lack of rain. Quality average to attractive. Supply included: 100% Feeder Cattle (59% Steers, 38% Heifers, 3% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 52%.
