Undergraduate students interested in community outreach, science and agriculture are encouraged to apply for a variety of 8-week paid summer internships through UT Extension, the outreach unit of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture.

The Tennessee Extension Internship Program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the work conducted by UT Extension. With offices in every county across the state, UT Extension delivers research-based education and resources in agriculture, family and consumer sciences and community development to improve the quality of life for Tennesseans.

Elizabeth Sanders, a former family and consumer sciences intern who served as an FCS agent and director with UT-TSU Extension in Davidson County, said this about the program: “I already had an idea of what I wanted to do, but the internship gave me a very realistic look into what every day looked like for an Extension agent. I knew that I wanted to serve my community, but I also knew I didn’t want every day to be the same, and Extension checks off all of those boxes for me.”

Students interested in applying for an internship are encouraged to visit UT Extension’s internship website for more information about open positions, required qualifications and the application form. Internships are expected to run from June 1 through July 29, 2026, and successful applicants will receive a stipend during their internship.   ∆
