Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers traded mostly steady, with moderate to good demand despite declines in cattle futures. Corn prices moved higher on expectations of increased exports, contributing to the weaker feeder futures. Slaughter cattle markets again reached record highs last week and this with strong movement. Weaned steer and heifer calves were 10.00-20.00 lower in a light test and on generally lower quality offerings, while un-weaned calves sold sharply lower. Current weather conditions-a hot, humid day followed by a drop into the 60s-are having adverse effects on un-weaned and short-weaned calves. Demand for calves was moderate, as some producers remain occupied with wheat harvest activities. Overall quality was mostly average, with feeder cattle ranging from medium to fleshy, and a few appearing thin. High winds and warm temperatures over the past four days have intensified drought conditions in western Oklahoma, though some rain chances remain in the forecast for later this week. Supply included: 100% Feeder Cattle (57% Steers, 39% Heifers, 4% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 82%.
