Compared to the last special two weeks ago, steer calves weighing 500-600 lbs sold steady, with 600-800 lbs on a light test trading with a firm to higher undertone. Heifer calves weighing 400-450 lbs sold with a sharply higher undertone, with 450-700 lbs all selling steady to firm on comparable weights, there were 6 pot loads of yearling heifers weighing 780-988 lbs were not tested with the largest consignment being 115 hd of heifers weighing 935 lbs at 311.00 and 104 hd heifers weighing 988 lbs at 303.50. Slaughter cows traded steady with last week. Supply included: 84% Feeder Cattle (35% Steers, 63% Heifers, 2% Bulls); 16% Slaughter Cattle (21% Steers, 10% Heifers, 60% Cows, 10% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 63%.

Compared to last week: Feeder steers steady to 5.00 higher, instance to 10.00 higher on heavier weights. Feeder heifers 2.00-8.00 higher. After a higher opening, cattle futures ran into a wall and closed lower. Demand was moderate to good with fairly active trade. Steer calves 10.00-20.00 lower. Heifer calves 2.00-8.00 lower. Demand moderate for calves. Demand limited for un-weaned or short weaned calves as temps are locked in on the 90's all week with heat indexes of 100+ expected. On a good note, good rains fell across some of the most extreme drought areas of the state over the weekend. Quality average, end attractive with several nice loads of feeder cattle. Supply included: 100% Feeder Cattle (50% Steers, 47% Heifers, 2% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 71%.
