In a recent webinar, Bayer CropScience announced to media the introduction of Credenz™, the company's first global soybean seed brand, commercially available in U.S. markets now.
Credenz builds on Bayer CropScience's substantial technology platform, delivering a wide range of varieties and traits, while integrating smart genetics, traits and varieties to maximize yield performance. The new brand is available to growers in the South (Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, North Carolina) and Midwest (Southern Iowa, Illinois, Missouri) as they plan their 2015 growing season.
Bayer’s mission is summed in its mantra: “Science For A Better Life.”
“I’m exciting to announce the availability of Credenz in the United States,” said Diego Angelo, director, U.S. soybean operations, Bayer CropScience, as he opened the webinar. “Production is expected to significantly increase with Credenz over the next five years, with 27 high yielding varieties that will perform across different soil types. The disease and insect package will give growers the choice of using different chemicals to control weeds.”
   Credenz offers soybean growers:
   • A wide range of varieties and traits including LibertyLink, as well as glyphosate-tolerant traits, in 27 high-performing varieties developed for Maturity Groups 2-7.
   • A customized, flexible platform developed to meet a range of individual production preferences, including location, soil type, disease resistance and weed management features.
   • Versatile disease tolerance to stem canker, frogeye and sudden death syndrome to protect plants and help them thrive and deliver competitive yield performance.
   • Advancements in pest management, like multiple herbicide traits and nematode control.
"The Credenz launch brings much-needed innovation to the U.S. soybean market," Angelo continued. "In this rapidly evolving market, it is more important than ever to ensure growers have access to beans with unique traits tailored to address individual production needs. To meet these needs, we have invested in Credenz breeding stations in the United States and around the world to provide timely, custom-made solutions to meet the region-specific challenges faced by U.S. growers."
HBK Seed, a brand from Hornbeck Seed Company which Bayer CropScience acquired in 2011, will now carry the Credenz brand name.
"Our experience this year with the Bayer CropScience system was tremendous,” said Joe Mencer, a soybean grower based in Lake Village, Ark. “We had some of the highest yielding soybeans we've ever had. A number of our fields averaged more than 80 bushels an acre; we even had some that averaged in the mid-90s."
Smart genetics and traits help soybeans grow stronger and heartier under a wide variety of growing conditions. Each Credenz seed is backed by some of the most innovative technologies in the crop protection industry today, including Bayer CropScience seed treatments and coatings, high-performance crop protection products, and an expertise grounded in science and commitment to customers.
In coming years, Bayer CropScience will expand the Credenz platform by introducing multiple new trait technologies, working collaboratively with industry partners to deliver increasingly innovative tools for soybean growers.
"Soybeans represent a strategic crop for Bayer CropScience and our focus on building a fully integrated soybean portfolio of offerings will allow us to provide growers with complete solutions of seed, seed treatment, traits and crop protection solutions," said Allen Gent, U.S. soybean product manager, Bayer CropScience. Bayer CropScience's seed treatments range from the market-leading Poncho®/VOTiVO® to its highly anticipated newest addition – ILeVO®. When registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), ILeVO will be the first product to provide breakthrough protection for soybean seedlings against the fungus that causes Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS).
Credenz will be available for the 2015 growing season in the United States and the program will be expanded to provide availability in most U.S. markets beginning in 2015 for the 2016 growing season.
