1957 Ford 860 Don Bogenpohl Story

PERRYVILLE, MO.
The year was 1957 when Don Bogenpohl graduated from Jackson High School, in Jackson, Mo. About the same time, his dad traded their old Ferguson TO-20 in on a new 1957 Ford Model 860. Bill Seabaugh was the Ford tractor dealer in Jackson, and Ray Mirly was the salesman that sold Don’s dad the 860. Shortly thereafter, his dad drove to the Perryville Oliver Company in Perryville Mo. and bought a new Oliver square baler to go with it. With this combination, Don baled hay and straw for their farm and the neighbors. For years afterward, the 860 did it all.

These days, the 860 does not do a lot of farm work. It has been retired to the world of tractor parades, shows, and adventure rides. Just recently, August 13-17, Don displayed the 860 to the American Threshermans Association’s 55th annual show in Pinckneyville, Ill. Traditionally one brand of tractor is chosen each year as the featured manufacturer, and in 2014 Ford tractors received this honor. Don’s two grandsons, Cayden Bogenpohl and Seth Janson, were with him at the show, and were sure proud of that old Ford 860 of Grandpa’s!
In total, there were 150 Ford tractors displayed and some had implements attached. It was the 55th year for the show and also 55 years since Ford introduced the 1959 gold Select-O-Speed Ford tractor demonstrators throughout the country. In commemoration of this, there were seven of these gold tractors brought for display. ∆
