PhytoGen@ Brand PHY 499 WRF Is No. 1 Planted Variety In United States Again

INDIANAPOLIS, IND.
For the third consecutive year, PhytoGen had the most widely planted variety in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture Cotton Varieties Planted 2013 Crop report issued recently.
PhytoGen® brand PHY 499 WRF was planted on nearly 10 percent of U.S. Upland cotton acreage  – making it the second year in a row that PHY 499 WRF held the top spot. In 2011, PhytoGen brand PHY 375 WRF was the most widely planted cotton variety in the country.
What this means to the leaders at PhytoGen is that they’re bringing growers varieties they can count on to consistently yield well – regardless of the weather challenges each season.
“Our goal is to bring forward cotton varieties farmers across the country can count on to bring the yields they need with the quality the market demands,” says Duane Canfield, portfolio marketing leader and general manager for PhytoGen at Dow AgroSciences. “Cotton growers choose PhytoGen varieties because they can count on high and consistent yields, strong vigor, excellent fiber quality and the traits they need.”
In some ways, Canfield notes, 2013 is a repeat of the Cotton Varieties Planted 2012 Crop report – and the year before that. The numbers changed a bit, but the preface – PHY – is the same.
“As in 2011 and 2012, a PhytoGen brand cottonseed variety also was the No. 1 planted Pima variety,” Canfield notes.
According to the Cotton Varieties Planted 2013 Crop report, PhytoGen brand PHY 805 RF was planted on 52.6 percent of the United States Pima acreage. PHY 802 RF was the second most-planted American Pima variety with 15.6 percent of the U.S. acreage.
