UK Winter Wheat Meeting To Focus On Profitability

PRINCETON, KY.
   Kentucky wheat growers looking for ways to maximize their profitability should mark their calendars for the 2016 University of Kentucky Winter Wheat Meeting. The annual meeting, hosted by the UK College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. CST Jan. 5 at the James E. Bruce Convention Center in Hopkinsville.
   UK specialists from the Wheat Science Group will lead discussions on fusarium head blight, the statewide vomitoxin survey, results from a cereal rye variety trial, 2016 market outlook and risk management, plant growth regulators, nitrogen management and no-till wheat. State climatologist Stuart Foster, from Western Kentucky University, will give producers the climate outlook for Kentucky.
   Continuing education units for Certified Crop Advisers have been approved for the following: 1.5 in pest management, 0.5 in both crop management and professional development and one each in nutrient management and soil and water management. Program organizers have applied for continuing education credits for pesticide applicators.
   The Kentucky Small Grain Growers Association will provide lunch.

   The James E. Bruce Convention Center is located at 303 Conference Center Drive in Hopkinsville. From the north, take exit 5 on Pennyrile Parkway. Turn right onto Lovers Lane (State Road 1613) and take another right onto Conference Center Drive. From south of Hopkinsville, take exit 81 on Interstate 24 to Pennyrile Parkway toward Hopkinsville. On the parkway, take exit 5 to Lovers Lane. Take a right on Conference Center Drive.
   Those with a GPS will need to use the address 5305 Ft. Campbell Blvd., Hopkinsville, KY 42240. This is the Murray State University Hopkinsville Regional Campus. From there, turn right at the first stop sign. At the next stop sign, turn left and continue on to the convention center. ∆
