Eastern Missouri Livestock Auction
APRIL 8, 2016 • Bowling Green, Mo.
Receipts: 2476; Last Week: 1047; Year Ago: 2081

Compared to the last special two weeks ago, the best comparison on weaned steer calves weighing 500-600 lbs and heifer calves weighing 400-600 lbs all traded mostly $5-10 lower, with steers and heifers weighing 600-700 lbs selling $2-5 lower, spots $6-8 lower on the heifers.   Yearlings over 600 lbs were not well tested on comparable sales. Slaughter cows sold $2-4 lower. There was a lot of new crop unweaned fleshy and short weaned calves in the offering and in many cases widening the price spread against the long time weaned calves. The last couple of weeks have seen the feeder cattle markets comfort zone on the negative side as wide price swings in the cattle futures have been on the volatile side. Slaughter cows accounted for 10 percent of the total receipts with the feeder supply 69 percent steers and bulls, 39 percent heifers and near 48 percent weighing over 600 lbs.
