Eastern Missouri Livestock Auction

   Compared to the previous auction two weeks ago, feeder steers and heifers weighing under 750 lbs traded $7-12 lower with spots $15 lower on the heifers. Demand was moderate with bulk of the feeders weighing 450-750 lbs. CME cattle futures continue to have a volatile swing (mostly down) but closed with triple-digit gains on Friday as they try to find some legs. Fed cattle prices continue to trend lower as they have over the last 4 weeks keeping pressure on the feeder cattle market. Slaughter cows accounted for near 15 percent of the total receipts and sold steady to $2 lower with mostly average to low dressing cows. Feeder supply consisted of 65 percent steers, 35 percent heifers and near 45 percent weighing over 600 lbs.

   Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold uneven, from $5 lower to $4 higher. Slaughter cows sold $1 lower and few bulls sold $3 lower. Demand uneven and supply light. Cows made up approximately 22 percent of the run, 78 percent feeders. Steers made up approximately 34 percent of the offering, 42 percent heifers with 18 percent feeder bulls. Offerings over 600 lbs totaled around 27 percent.
