2017 SIU Performance Test Bull & Common $ents Bred Heifer Classic Sale Results

CARBONDALE, ILL.
   The 40th Annual SIU Performance Tested Bull sale and the 1st Annual Common $ents Bred Heifer Classic was March 3, 2017. New this year, bred heifers were sold after the bulls and the new program is a collaborative effort between the University of Illinois Extension and SIU. The bull sale average was $2,398.84 on 43 lots and the heifer sale average was $1,759.52 on 14 lots.
   Compared to one of the highest sale averages ($3,496.97, 2016) the average was down following the decline in bull prices across the U. S. The quality of genetics was some of the best we have had and there were two age divisions (Sr. and Jr.) and five breed divisions represented: Black Angus, Simmental, Simm x Ang cross, Polled Hereford, and Red Angus. 
   The top selling Sr. Angus bull was consigned by Gajewski Farms, Matt Gajewski. This bull was also the top indexing bull in his division and sold for $5000 to Jeff Diederich or Marion, Illinois. The top selling Jr. Angus bull was consigned by Bill Washburn. This bull was also the top indexing bull in his division and sold for $3400 to Robert Majewski of Waltonville, Illinios.
   The top selling Sr. Simmental bull was consigned by Moore Land and Cattle Co., Dennis Moore. This bull was the top indexing bull in his division and sold for $1800 to McLaughlin Farms of Murphysboro, Illinois. The top selling Jr. Simmental bull was consigned by DLB Farms, Don and Lisa Boldt. This bull was the top indexing bull in his division and sold for $2500 to Joe Tindall of Chester, Illinois. 
   The top selling Sr. Simm x Ang cross was consigned by Glenn Brammeier and Joe & Glenda Stork. This bull was also the top indexing bull in his division and sold for $3000 to Ron Bauersachs from Campbell Hill, Illinois. The top selling Jr. Simm x Ang cross was consigned by Glenn Brammeier and the bull indexed 3rd in his division. The bull sold for $5000 to Todd Slykhuis from Raleigh, Illinois.  
   The top selling Sr. Hereford was consigned by Sturdy Hereford Outlet, Mark, Connor, and L. Taylor Sturdy. This bull was the top indexing bull in his division and sold for $1550 to Ed Weber of Coulterville, Illinois. The top selling Jr. Hereford was consigned by Young’s Polled Herefords, Tony Young.  This bull was the top indexing bull in his division and sold for $ 2000 to Hayhurst Farms of Terre Haute, Indiana.
The top selling Red Angus was a Sr. bull consigned by Millsprings Ranch, Steve Hamm. This bull sold for $1800 to Tim Oliver of Vienna, Illinois.
   The Common $ents Bred Heifer Classic had not only bred heifers but also heifers with calf by side consigned to the sell. Two heifers topped the sell at $2100 and both heifers had calf by side. They were consigned by Larry Winemiller and both heifers were purchased by Shaye Harre of Nashville, Illinois. The top selling bred heifer, due to calve in fall, was consigned by Glenn Brammeier and sold to Tom Paszkiewicz of Nashville, Illinois.
