JACKSON, TENN.
The 2018 UT Cotton Focus is only a few weeks away. Please note we will host this year’s event Thursday, February 8th at the First United Methodist Church in Downtown Jackson (200 S. Church St Jackson, Tenn. 38301) due to renovation of the WTREC facility.
Registration starts at 8AM and the event will end with a provided lunch. After lunch, Dr. Larry Steckel will be conducting UT Extension’s Dicamba Stewardship Training.
We are very excited to welcome several guest speakers this year. Stanley Culpepper, Extension Weed Scientist from GA, will be presenting on stewarding new herbicide technologies and Palmer amaranth control. Tyler Sandlin (AL), Bill Robertson (AR), Darrin Dodds (MS) and I will be conducting a cotton specialists’ round-table discussion on season observations, herbicide tolerance, cover crops, and variety selection.     Additionally, Dr. Scott Stewart will provide updates on bollworm resistance/experiences with the plant bug trait, Dr. Heather Kelly will discuss bacterial blight and target spot trial results, and Dr. Aaron Smith will provide a market update and discuss the price point at which it makes sense to re-enter the cotton production system. The program will be moderated by Richard Buntin, Crockett County Extension Director and Agent.
This year’s program is stacked with excellent presenters and content. Hope to see you there! ∆
