Steers made up approximately 25 percent of the offering, 48 percent heifers with 27 percent feeder bulls.  Offerings over 600 lbs totaled around 19 percent.

   We have arrived at the time of year, warm days, cool ights equal sick cattle. This is being reflected in the price cattle are bringing as buyers are spending more on medicine. A lot of today’s offering was somewhat lesser quality and condition. Not many even groups. Based on that we are calling our market on average already to $3-6 lower. Lot of 10 black males average 615 lbs at $150.50 cwt.

   Friday's auction was a Special Bred Cow sale with a light test of feeders, mostly unweaned calves that sold off the pound cows that sold earlier in the day, selling unevenly steady with last week's unweaned calves. Bred cows and pairs were mostly average to plain quality and traded with moderate demand. Slaughter cows accounted for near 27 percent of the total receipts and traded steady to $2.00 lower, replacement cows 23 percent, slaughter steers and heifers 7 percent with feeders accounting for 43 percent. Feeder supply consisted of 55 percent steers and bulls, 45 percent heifers and 18 percent weighing over 600 lbs. Cattle on feed report was released Friday afternoon showing cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 11.4 million head on October 1, 2018. The inventory was 5 percent above October 1, 2017. This is the highest October 1 inventory since the series began in 1996. Placements in feedlots during September totaled 2.05 million head, 5 percent below 2017. Marketings of fed cattle during September totaled 1.72 million head, 4 percent below 2017.
