Farmington Livestock Market
JANUARY 9, 2019 • Farmington, Mo.
Receipts: 1550; Last Week: 471; Year Ago: 1926

Compared to the much lighter offering last week feeder steers and heifers sold unevenly steady. Slaughter cows sold steady to $3.00 higher and bulls mostly steady. Several larger drafts of high quality sixty plus day weaned calves, which had two or three rounds of shots and paper work from the vet to prove it. On top of that most of these calves were carrying only the lightest amounts of flesh. Those cattle found very good demand and sold at the tops of their weigh breaks as they were everything but making money on the truck ride to their new homes. On the other hand calves that were unweaned or carrying extra flesh struggled as buyers are already having some small thoughts about grass and getting some inventory gathered up. Those calves which already bounce and jiggle take a while to adjust and that adjustment time is not profitable. The supply of feeders was moderate leaning on towards heavy. The feeder offerings was made up of 44 percent steers, 51 percent heifers and 5 percent feeder bulls, with 36 percent of the feeders over 600 lbs. Slaughter cows andbulls made up approximately 20 percent of the total offering. Cattle Futures both live and feeder posted strong gains the first two days of the week but gave a little back on Wednesday.
