Soybean Symposium Set For April 10, 2019

The Missouri Soybean Center is pleased to announce that registration for the April 10 2019 US Soybean Symposium (SoySym2019) is now open.
SoySym2019 will open with the announcement of the Missouri Soybean Hall of Fame. Past HOF inductees are Don Heil and George Washington Carver. You may nominate someone by sending an email to Bill Wiebold, wieboldw@missouri.edu. Nominees must be retired from the responsibilities for which they are being nominated. The primary criterion is that the person has had a profound effect on agriculture in Missouri, especially soybean. This year the Center membership will vote among the nominees. You may join the Center by following this link: https://soybeancenter.missouri.edu/members/, but you do not need to be a member to nominate. Your nomination should include name, contact information (if living), and a short (2-4 paragraph) explanation of the person's impact on soybean in Missouri. Nominations should arrive by March 12.
Three farmers will answer questions from the audience addressing challenges of producing soybean in Missouri.
Presenters have been selected around the general topic of "big data". Shilpa Sood, Lead Discovery Scientist at The Climate Corporation will describe how climate, soil, and management characteristics are used to place soybean products on farmer fields.
Bob Schnabel, Associate Professor in Animal Sciences and Informatics Institute at MU, will provide lessons learned using animal models.
Katy Rainey, Associate Professor in Agronomy at Purdue University demonstrate how drones and sensors can be used during soybean variety development.
Our Poehlman Lecture will be presented by Scott Sebastian, retired research fellow for DuPont Pioneer. He will discuss his 30+ years of using accelerated yield technology and the search for soybean yield genes.
SoySym 2019 will be held in the Monsanto Auditorium of the Bond Life Sciences Center on the MU campus. Lunch is provided, but you must be registered.
