LEXINGTON, KY.
The University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment will host a daylong event to share information about the college’s industrial hemp research program.
The Hemp Production Field Day is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. EDT Aug. 21 at UK’s North Farm Complex in Lexington.
UK specialists will offer six concurrent tours. Participants will have the opportunity to select three of those to attend. Of the six, two tours will be agronomic-related and two will focus on pest management. The remaining topics include economic potential/risk for hemp-derived products and hemp regulations.
“With hemp research only resuming in 2014, we are still in the very preliminary stages of the scientific process and do not have all the answers yet,” said Bob Pearce, UK agronomist. “However, we are more than willing to share what we know with growers who are interested in transitioning to hemp production. We want to help them make the best decisions for their operation and put out the best crop possible.”
Registration is limited for the free event, and spaces are quickly filling. Preregistration is required. To register, visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/hemp-field-day-spindletop-farm-registration-64243028628?aff=affiliate1.
On-site parking at UK’s farm will also be limited, so individuals coming from the same area should consider carpooling. ∆
