Crop Advisor Of The Year




















   Hank Jones, Winnsboro, Louisiana, has been named the 2020 Crop Advisor of the Year at the 23rd Annual National Conservation Systems Cotton & Rice Conference, Southern Corn & Soybean Conference, Southern Precision Ag Conference and the Delta States Irrigation Conference.
   Jones earned a BS in Agronomy from Louisiana Tech and a MS in Entomology from Louisiana State University under the direction of Rogers Leonard with a focus on cotton aphids in cotton. Jones interned with DP&L through college.
    Currently, Jones consults in some of the largest crop production parishes in Louisiana. Crops include corn, cotton, soybean, wheat, rice, sorghum and sweet potatoes. “Jones is a great candidate for this award because he truly believes in IPM and implements the practices that make IPM a success in farming. He cultivates personal relationships with any and all he meets and works to better the agricultural community as a whole. He advocates the land grant mission and is a strong supporter of the LSU AgCenter and the specialists and scientists that work in agriculture. He is active in Franklin Parish, the community where he resides, and is an associate pastor at his church.  He actively participates in local theater and is a talented guitar player. Jones has developed regional, national and international relationships with pest management professionals so he is abreast of current advancements in pest management and agronomic practices and can bring these to his growers in Louisiana. He currently serves as the secretary to the Louisiana Agricultural Consultants Association and is a past president. He is actively involved in the Beltwide Cotton Conferences serving as the facilitator and moderator of the consultant’s conference.” 
   Jones is very active in the agricultural community and serves on numerous boards. He served as president of the Louisiana Agricultural Consultants Association and has been a board member since 2008. He is also a member of the Louisiana Cotton and Grain Association and a member of the National Alliance of Independent Crop Consultants. He currently serves as chair of the Consultants Conference at the Beltwide Cotton Conference and was appointed to the Louisiana Boll Weevil Eradication Commission. Over the course of his career he has been very active with the LSU AgCenter and has served on numerous advisory committees. He is a recent graduate of the 2011 Class of the LSU AgCenter Leadership Development Program and is a current board member for this program. Jones has worked in contract research for over 10 years.

I have observed that he always makes recommendations that are in the best interest (both financial and personal) of his clients, even if it may not be popular or what the client wants to hear. He is also a public advocate for his clients and for agricultural in general,” stated a colleague. ∆
