4/14/21 Cattle Sale Market Report
Market held mostly steady on a heavier test this week. Lightweight boy calves reached a higher top of $220/cwt; lightweight heifers reached $170/cwt. Demand is still very strong for the lighter grass cattle however their heavier counterparts gained some traction this week despite dollars being taken off the futures board.

Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold uneven, from $5.00 higher to $3.00 lower, steady in most weights. Slaughter cows and bulls sold $1.00 higher; Demand uneven and supply moderate. Supply included: 86 percent Feeder Cattle (50 percent Steers, 41 percent Heifers, 9 percent Bulls); 12 percent Slaughter Cattle (88 percent Cows, 12 percent Bulls); 2 percent Replacement Cattle (86 percent Bred Cows, 14 percent Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 15 percent.

Friday's auction was a Special Bred Cow and Pairs sale with several consignments of 1st calf heifer pairs in the offering selling with very good demand, with the balance 4-7 year old pairs and bred cows 4-7 years of age in the 2nd and 3rd stage selling with moderate to good demand. A very large offering of slaughter cows sold on and active market trading firm to $3.00 higher. Feeder cattle consisted of mostly unweaned, short weaned and fleshy calves weighing 350-550 lbs selling with moderate to good demand with very few good comparisons. Supply included: 46 percent Feeder Cattle (47 percent Steers, 42 percent Heifers, 11 percent Bulls); 30 percent Slaughter Cattle (3 percent Steers, 90 percent Cows, 7 percent Bulls); 24 percent Replacement Cattle (40 percent Bred Cows, 22 percent Cow-Calf Pairs, 37 percent Heifer Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 14 percent.
