Scouting School, Strip Trial Update Offered June 29 In Auxvasse

COLUMBIA, MO.

   University of Missouri Extension will hold a free school on early- season disease scouting and the “MU Certified” Strip Trial Program 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday, June 29, in Auxvasse.

   The event will be at Rothermich Farms, where attendees can see strip trial plots and host Linus Rothermich will tell of his experiences as a program participant.

   Other speakers include MU Extension agricultural engineer Charles Ellis and MU Extension nutrient management specialist John Lory. Both work on cover crop strip trials with Rothermich. They will discuss some of the challenges of nitrogen management with cover crops and share what the program’s research shows from long-term trials.

   MU Extension plant pathologist Kaitlyn Bissonnette will walk a soybean field, update farmers on diseases and pests and show how to scout for them.

   MU Extension agronomist Rusty Lee will talk about managing fungicide resistance.

   Rothermich Farms is 5 miles east of Auxvasse on state Route B. Turn north on County Road 1015 for a quarter mile. Park on the gravel roads. Signs will be posted on Route B. On-site check-in starts at 8:30 a.m.

   USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture, the Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council and its checkoff, and the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council sponsor the event along with MU Extension. Missouri Fertilizer Control Board also supports the strip trial program. The “MU Certified” Strip Trial Program is led by Bissonnette and Lory. ∆
